Giving Technology a Second Life for Take Care Kids Thailand
Sometimes a simple opportunity can turn into something much more worthwhile.
Recently, Steve from Gecko Properties contacted us about several computers they no longer needed. The equipment was collected and cleaned up, and when Ben, our Managing Director at We’re Humans, heard about it, he suggested that instead of simply recycling the computers, we refurbish them and donate them somewhere they can make a real difference.
Take Care Kids Thailand came to mind immediately.
A relationship that began in 2023
Two 2026 numbers tell the story. The market has split into a barbell — senior and AI-native roles are rewarded while junior demand is squeezed — and listings for agentic-AI roles specifically grew 280% year over year (FinalRoundAI, 2026). Demand is concentrating at the senior end at exactly the moment we were told it would disappear. When a lot of smart buyers pay more for something, it’s usually because it got more valuable, not less.
A charity with Italian roots and a home in Thailand
Take Care Kids has a story that connects Italy and Thailand.
The organisation was founded in Italy in 2006 by Gio Lusuardi, who had already spent time in Thailand and had become involved in helping children in the Pattaya area. His involvement grew over time, particularly following the devastating 2004 tsunami, and ultimately led to the creation of Take Care Kids.
In 2010, the Take Care Kids Thailand Foundation was formally established and recognised in Thailand, giving the organisation a permanent base from which to continue its work with vulnerable children and families. It has since developed into the foster home and support organisation operating in Pattaya today.
Its work focuses on protecting and supporting children and, in some circumstances, single mothers with children who need a safe and supportive environment. Education, everyday family life and helping children rebuild stability are central to what the organisation does.
Visiting Take Care, Kids
We recently visited the facility to deliver the refurbished equipment and were welcomed by Maria, who gave us a tour and explained more about the day-to-day work taking place there.
Maria has been involved with Take Care Kids for many years and is clearly a hugely important part of the organisation.
The children were at school when we visited, but that gave us a chance to see the facility properly and appreciate just how much care goes into running it.
The whole place was immaculate, bright, organised and exceptionally well maintained. Every room, communal area, outdoor space, and practical facilities all reflected the effort the staff and volunteers make to create a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Talking to Maria also gave us a much better understanding of the amount of work that happens behind the scenes every day.
Continuing to grow
One of the most interesting developments we saw was the work surrounding the charity’s new Boys’ House.
The new facility is intended for teenage boys aged 12 to 18 and will help Take Care Kids provide separate accommodation for older boys while freeing additional space within the main home.
The planned building will provide bedrooms for up to nine boys together with communal facilities and accommodation for overnight staff.
It is another example of how Take Care Kids continues to develop its facilities as demand for support grows.
This particular donation also shows what can happen when local businesses work together.
The computers came through Steve and Gecko Properties, and the We’re Humans team helped arrange for the equipment to be collected, cleaned, checked and prepared before being donated to Take Care Kids.
For businesses, technology can become outdated relatively quickly. But equipment that no longer suits one company can still have years of useful life elsewhere.
Giving that equipment a second life is better for the environment and, more importantly, puts it into the hands of an organisation that can use it.
More than a website project
Our relationship with Take Care Kids began with a website, but it has developed into something much more ongoing.
Since 2023, we have continued to help Laura and the team with website updates, news stories and IT support whenever we can.
Our latest visit reminded us why that relationship matters.
Take Care Kids is supported by a combination of dedicated staff, volunteers, donors and local businesses, all contributing in different ways.
We were pleased to play a small part by giving these computers a new home, and we look forward to continuing to support Gio, Laura, Maria and the Take Care Kids team in the future.
